The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.
Job Summary
You will be responsible for assisting the Environmental team at the Great Bear project. This position will require training within the department while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist in the collection and monitoring of environmental data (surface water, ground water, air & noise, and ML/ARD).
- Assist with site inspections.
- Maintain accurate data in accordance with Government sampling and monitoring criteria.

- Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
- Adhere to all relevant Great Bear policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements
This position will be offered to a student going into their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of an Environmental Program. Must provide proof of enrollment in a post-secondary institution on a full-time basis and be returning to school in the fall.
- Familiar with Occupational Health & Safety Act, and Environmental Legislation.
- Capable of learning and adapting to new equipment and software.
- Comprehends and capable of interpreting technical language.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and able to work effectively with others.
- Strong computer skills, specifically working with Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
- Possess a valid G2 or G Drivers License.
- Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather; proficient in the use of watercraft, snowmachine and ATV/UTV.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and extended hours to faciliate baseline programs.
Work Conditions
This position is based in Red Lake, Ontario. In this role you will work a 5X2 schedule.
Compensation and Total Rewards
The hourly rate for the Environmental Student starts at $23.92 per hour.
The hourly rate is in accordance with our established compensation framework for the role. This rate is fixed for the role and reflects requirements and benchmark market data for similar positions.
