Job Description
Perform structural welding repairs to mining equipment such as repairing cracked or broken metal objects, building up metal parts, and pipe welding including stainless steel; knowledge of composition of ferrous and non-ferrous metals; effective use of oxyacetylene (O/A), stick (GMAW), and wire welding techniques; effective use of O/A, carbon arc, and plasma cutting techniques; design and fabricate metal components, tools, and jigs; read and comprehend service manual specified methods, procedures, schematic diagrams, and drawings; installation of shrink and press fit bushings, and conduct welding training.
Job Responsibilities
1. Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for the job. Plans details of working procedure and tools/materials requirements.
2. Plans details of work procedure, tools, and material requirements.
3. Fabricates equipment by cutting, burning, and welding various materials utilizing acetylene, oxyacetylene, and plasma ARC welding techniques.
4. Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded in addition to set up and assembly.
5. Utilizes burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.
6. Performs field welding as needed.
7. Dismantle or cut up obsolete machinery, setting aside parts for scrap dealer when needed.
8. Stays familiar with and utilizes all proper safety equipment.
9. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
10. Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
11. Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
12. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
13. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
14. Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them.
15. Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
16. Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must possess the ability to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
- Three years of welding experience on mining or construction heavy equipment preferred.
- Should have knowledge of steel codes and classes of steel.
- Welding certification preferred.
Skills
- Must have a strong understanding of welding rod/wire and the tensile strength associated with each.
- Must have own hand tools up to ¾” drive to perform necessary maintenance.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand repair manuals and diagrams.
- Ability to work with others in a team environment.
- Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
- Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays and weekends.
- Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
