Job Description
To provide complex technical leadership and support to multiple shifts of an operations team. To follow established policies, practices and procedures when completing work assignments. To provide work direction to multiple shifts of an operations team. To ensure continued growth of the team and to maximize operational efficiencies and profitability.
Job Responsibilities
• Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of all activities related to operations
• Answers queries and handles requests related to operations which includes problem solving and judgment
• Complies with established methodologies and quality standards related to operations while at the same time recommending new or alternate approaches
• Establishes operating priorities and works with other operations supervisors to meet production goals and to coordinate activities in completing work orders
• Ensures compliance with company policy and procedures and regulations, including health & safety
• Addresses queries and resolves issues internally while ensuring service standards are met
• Implements processes, policies, systems, and practices that contribute to effective operations
• Acts as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone, and prioritizes business goals
• Responsible for day to day scheduling and co-ordination of plant operations to ensure maximum efficiency and safety
• Monitor records including safety meetings, attendance, vacations, scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary action and accidents
• Escalates issues requiring knowledge about the broader business impact of decisions. Works with mentor as needed.
• Identifies strategies and key performance goals and acts as an advisor to direct reports
• Sets performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages overall performance of the team and direct reports
Education and Experience
Education
• College or technical training equivalent to 3 years of study in mine / metallurgical engineering preferred
• Completion of formal professional certification or designation in appropriate area of expertise
Experience
• More than 10 years of related work experience; Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
• Experience as a mine or drill and blast supervisor is required
Skills
• General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions
• Good understanding of gold metallurgy
• Good working knowledge and skills with a PC utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs
• Detailed knowledge of established mining methods and operating practices
Reporting Relationships
• Provides work direction to the operations team
• Typically reports into the Mine / Mill / Maintenance Manager
