Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Job Summary
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the refinery and gold room.
Essential Functions
- Clean the Electrowinning cells and cathodes to remove and recover gold-bearing sludge.
- Maintain the cathodes, anodes, and bus bars to ensure proper operation of the Electrowinning cells.
- Operate the Finishing Table to produce a gold-bearing concentrate.
- Prepare gold-bearing sludge and concentrates for smelting.
- Shovel precipitate into the furnace and operate the smelting furnace
- Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
- Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
- Work safely in all areas identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them.
- Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employees must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
- One-year mill operations experience is preferred.
- Must be able to take a blood test and a urine test regularly for health monitoring reasons.
- Must have a solid ability to administer first aid for chemical and thermal burns.
- Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
- Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
- Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
- Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached check lists.
Skills
- Ability to walk over rough terrain as well as climb stairways, catwalks and pads.
- Ability to shovel clean up material.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. frequently throughout the day.
- Ability to work at heights in excess of 80 ft.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Accurate and legible paperwork is a must.
- He/she will have performed the duties of an operator for a specified period and must meet all department training guidelines. He/she will be conversant and task trained on all support equipment.
- Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
- General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
- Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
- Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
- Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
- Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
- Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
- Requires valid driver’s license.
