Laborer

Job Summary

Provide non-technical general labor and equipment operation support for the department. Perform grounds / facility maintenance, small equipment / machine checks and repairs, snow removal and general cleanup. Will operate small equipment such as 5 ton dump truck, bobcats, forklifts and loaders.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for building, site, and shop cleanup.
• Assist mechanic in carrying machine parts and tools and materials to and from the worksites.
• Perform equipment walk around, inspect and operate equipment, and properly dispose of wastes.
• Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
• Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
• Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
• Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
• Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.  Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
• Experience in building, site, and shop maintenance and cleanup preferred.
• Experience operating small equipment such as forklifts, bobcats, and loaders is preferred.
• Ability to work without constant, direct supervision.
• Ability to work with others in a team environment.
• Involves lifting and moving various materials in weights up to 50 or more pounds, climbing up and down stairs, and working in an outside environment.
• Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required.
• Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
• Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
• Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
• Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
