Job Summary
Provide complex technical support to environmental department to follow established policies, practices and procedures. Supervise and instruct the environmental technicians activities to maximize efficiencies and ensure quality results in a safety oriented work place and to meet department and site goals.
Essential Functions
- Plan and execute work activities to meet schedules, deadlines and goals.
- Direct and assist Environmental Technicians in performing environmental monitoring and sampling in accordance with approved permits, monitoring plans, and QA/QC manuals to assure proper procedures are adhered to.
- Responsible for working with associated laboratories to ensure the quality of results.
- Maintain data storage system regarding sampling data results.
- Responsible for preparing quarterly reports in accordance with our Waste Management Permit.
- Identify training needs and schedule as appropriate.
- Conduct, with the assistance of the environmental technicians, quarterly environmental training for all mine site personnel.
- Responsible for training new hires and contractors regarding compliance with environmental guidelines, procedures, reporting and compliance issues.
- Manage the potable water system.
- Responsible for the maintenance of FGMI's spill reporting program.
- Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
- Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.
- Possession of valid driver license issued by the state.
- Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
- Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions and carrying out corrective actions as needed.
- Investigate, analyze and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
- Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- BA or BS degree in engineering, (preferably environmental, civil, or mining), natural resources management, or biological sciences or equivalent work experience.
- Strong background in environmental engineering or sciences.
- Basic knowledge of all phases of mining and milling operations as well as environmental monitoring and sampling.
- Working knowledge of the provisions of all environmental permits and regulations.
- Ability to work well with mine site personnel in various departments and positions throughout the site.
- Working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing work processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Experience in managing personnel in varying and unrelated fields.
- Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
- Excellent administrative, organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
