Custodian

Job Summary

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the mine property while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Essential Functions

• Performs cleaning and janitorial duties in addition to limited grounds maintenance.
• Cleans hallways, employee lunchrooms, washrooms and offices.  Also cleans windows, floors, dusting and performs trash removal.
• Performs inspection and maintenance of equipment specific to job duties.
• Proper disposal of waste products.
• Cleans snow from entrances and sidewalks.
• Keeps custodial area neat and orderly and reports supply orders to supervisor.
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
• Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
• Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.
• Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
• Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.  Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state
• Some previous custodial experience preferred.
• Must have basic knowledge of equipment used.
• Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
• Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
• May work holidays, weekends, and shift work as required.

Skills

• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Must be aware of all chemicals used and what their purposes are, including what chemicals can and cannot be used in conjunction with each other and on certain surfaces.
• Previous janitorial experience would be an asset.
• Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
• General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
• Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
• Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
• Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
• Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
• Requires valid driver’s license.
