Job Summary
The Alaska Logistics and Materials Advisor is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics and supply strategies for critical bulk materials, fuels, and explosives supporting Kinross Alaska operations. This role ensures reliable, safe, and cost-effective delivery of materials across complex and remote supply chains by aligning demand forecasts, supplier capabilities, and logistics constraints.
The position serves as a key interface between operations, procurement, suppliers, and site teams—using data driven insights, supplier performance management, and Alaska specific logistics expertise to optimize inventory levels, define stock versus nonstock strategies, and clearly communicate supply expectations. The role also supports sourcing and contracting activities for assigned agreements, including supplier engagement, contract execution, and post award administration. As the Fuel Management Lead for Kinross Alaska, the role provides oversight of fuel management systems, inventory visibility, and consumption reporting to ensure supply security and data integrity. Through strong supplier relationships, policy enforcement, and continuous improvement, the role supports uninterrupted operations and long-term supply chain resilience.
Essential Functions
- Accountable for efficient delivery of the Manh Choh and Ore Haul network bulks, fuel and explosives, plus any additional categories pursued with business partners in collaboration with procurement team.
- Lead forecast review processes with internal stakeholders for bulk materials and fuels, including validation, challenge, and alignment of demand forecasts to logistics constraints, supplier capabilities, and seasonal risk factors.
- Advise on macro trends in logistics to move materials to Alaska and historical performance of vendors to optimize inventory levels, strategies for stock vs. non-stock, and expectation communication to end-users.
- Monitor logistics trends and supplier performance to inform inventory levels, define stock versus nonstock strategies, and clearly communicate supply expectations and constraints to end users.
- Enforce Kinross Supply Chain (SC) policies and contracts with vendors to ensure quality and timeliness of materials to site. Assess SC performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Provide input to procurement and contracting methodologies for Kinross properties in Alaska to ensure best pricing for goods and services, emergency stock management for supply security, and acceptable delivery schedules aligned to end user needs.
- Lead and administer sourcing and contracting processes for assigned agreements, including RFP and RFQ development, supplier engagement, evaluation, award support, and postaward contract administration, in coordination with Procurement, Legal, and Risk as required.
- Participate in evaluations and negotiations on acquisitions of high value or high volume commodities common among Kinross properties in Alaska. On most critical items be direct point of contact to supplier to ensure timeliness and awareness amongst operations group. Provide and/or facilitate training of end-users involved in outsourcing or requirement generation as needed.
- Interface with vendors and suppliers and establish strong relationships to ensure responsiveness and timely delivery on contracts. Design requirements for reviews of relationship in applicable timeline prescribed by contracts and business criticality such as quarterly performance reviews.
- Conduct internal materials management audits and provide support in accordance with findings.
- Serve as the Fuel Management Lead for Kinross Alaska, with accountability for fuel management systems and data integrity, including oversight of inventory visibility, consumption tracking, reconciliation, and coordination with suppliers and site teams to ensure accurate reporting and proactive supply management.
- Make recommendations regarding the selection and hiring of personnel and provide development opportunities for employees.
- Perform other related functions as assigned.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business management, engineering, sourcing management, or a related field is preferred. Certification is desirable (APICS, ISM, NCMA, etc.)
- Seven years or more of related experience in bulk reagents and materials supply for heavy industry in at least one of materials control, purchasing, and contracts management with exposure to other functions.
- Three years or more working in Alaska preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, including the ability to interface with senior management, line management, and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise sound business judgment with a results orientated approach.
- Must possess a strong work ethic and desire to improve the situation, taking responsibility for decisions and actions, and insisting upon measurable results while moving business forward.
- Excellent working knowledge and skill with a PC utilizing programs in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), as well as a general knowledge of integrated purchasing systems.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
- Comfortable working in a variety of locations and on the road. Position will require travel to Tok and interfacing with vendors throughout Alaska in person.
