Job Summary
Under the direction of the Tire Shop Supervisor, the Tire Technician is responsible for managing, maintaining, and replacing tires on large earthmoving equipment. This role is primarily based in the tire department and plays a critical part in supporting safe and efficient mine operations. The technician must align daily work practices with Kinross' core values and safety standards.
This position follows a 5/4 rotating schedule, alternating between day and night shifts.
Essential Functions
- • Change tires on all mobile equipment, including large mining units and support vehicles
• Perform and document tire inspections, including air pressure and tread depth measurements
• Complete all required paperwork accurately, such as service reports, change cards, and tread depth logs
• Perform cold air pressure checks on downed equipment when possible
• Evaluate tires and wheels on all equipment arriving at the tire pad and upon request elsewhere on site
• Maintain a proper inventory of spare tires, parts, and tools
• Load and unload tires using tire handling equipment as needed
• Remove rocks and debris from tire treads
• Move rubber-tired equipment within the maintenance area when required (for maintenance use only)
• Assist with Out-of-Service Tire Surveys and related documentation
• Keep the work area clean and tools in good condition
• Support safety, environmental, confidentiality, and company policy compliance
• Help train and support fellow team members as needed
• Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- • Understanding of tire construction, types, and maintenance best practices
• Ability to identify and address unsafe tire conditions
• Basic math skills for measuring and interpreting tread depth
• Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs frequently
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
• Knowledge of safety protocols related to tire work and mobile equipment
• Some mechanical background preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• General understanding of mining operations and basic maintenance functions
• Basic computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, databases)
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills
• Must be 18 years of age and authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis
• Valid driver’s license required
