Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Bald Mountain and the nearby Round Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Technical Services Superintendent, provide senior level technical advice and direction to management and staff.  The person should possess the skills of a “well rounded” mine geologist to maintain effective communication and relationship with Exploration Geology, Hydrology, Geotechnical, Environmental, Engineering and Metallurgical groups. Development of MinEx targets and drilling programs while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Essential Functions

•    Provide technical supervision of exploration activities in the field as well as the office.
•    Carry out and oversee technical functions (mapping, drill hole logging, etc).
•    Integrate and interpret geologic mapping, geophysical, geochemical and RC and core drilling data.
•    Assist with geologic modeling updates, and provide support to resource and mine geologists.
•    Ensure exploration data is organized and well documented for accuracy and quality in a timely and efficient manner. 
•    Assist other departments with tasks that involve geologic issues.
•    Must be able to work with little or no supervision; must be able to work well with others.
•    Represents the company with drilling and other contractors.
•    Keep current on new developments in geology and other fields that might improve efficiency in developing, handling and interpreting geologic data.
•    Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
•    Possess a positive attitude at all times and good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

•    7-12 years of previous experience in mining and exploration required.
•    Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing situations.
•    Ability to work independently and as a member of the senior team.
•    Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
•    Ability to function within steep terrain, variable weather conditions.
•    Good working knowledge and skill with a PC utilizing office applications and GIS software; knowledge of Acquire, Vulcan, Leapfrog, ArcGIS, ioGAS.
•    Must have a strong commitment to safety in the working environment.
•    Has a strong working knowledge of exploration techniques and a thorough understanding of drilling and assaying techniques.
•    Conscientious in taking on new tasks to improve skills.
•    Be a positive, safety-minded contributor to the team. 
•    Ability to work independently and as a part of the team.
•    Consistently willing to learn and improve skills.
•    Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays and weekends. 
•    Currently authorized, must be 18 years old and to work in the United States on a full time basis.
