Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Job Summary

The successful candidate will work as part of a team to provide permitting and environmental services at a gold mining operation in Nevada.  Under the direction of the Environmental Superintendent, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for managing multiple environmental compliance programs, as well as assisting to secure State of Nevada level permits.  The successful candidate must ensure that company activities are conducted in accordance with company policies, as well as, local, state and federal environmental regulations and permits.  The successful candidate must be able to conduct all activities in a safe manner and align performance and daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Essential Functions

  1. Conduct all activities safely, in accordance with Kinross’ internal policies. 
  2. Ensure compliance is maintained with regards to Nevada environmental permits, licenses and regulations. 
  3. Complete permitting actions in a timely manner by soliciting and gathering necessary information, with a strong attention to details, working with operational departments, and submitting complete permit applications, to minimize permitting delays and ensure that company operations and projects are not hindered.  
  4. Develop and maintain rapport with State and Federal regulators and government agencies to foster a working relationship that minimizes adversarial actions, enforcement actions, and penalties. 
  5.   Effectively communicate and engage with all site personnel regarding regulatory obligations. Meet with other department personnel in the field to provide guidance and support. 
  6. Provide environmental awareness training to site employees and contractors.
  7. Conduct field visits and outdoor projects as they relate to the assigned permits and duties.
  8. Coordinate and manage environmental and permitting contractor and consultant activities. 
  9. Exhibit experience working with budgets, contracts and contractor management. Including familiarity with creating scopes of work and working with the business partner to maintain projects within the schedule and budget agreed upon. 
  10. Comply with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, supply chain, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  11. Exhibit professional acumen in engaging with mining associations and other professional organizations as a Kinross employee. 
  12. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  13. Perform other functions as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science or engineering.  A degree in a related scientific or engineering discipline will be considered (e.g., biology, ecology, chemistry, hydrology, civil or mining engineering). 
  2. A minimum of 5 years work experience in environmental programs, preference given to Nevada mining experience. 
  3. A minimum of 2 years work experience managing permitting projects.
  4. Strong technical and analytical skills.   
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills, both internal and external to the company.  
  6. Able to work as part of a transparent and inclusive team, in cooperation with other departments. 
  7. Able to work independently to manage workload and prioritize tasks. 
  8. Strong organizational and administrative skills. 
  9. Experienced and skilled at using Microsoft Office programs.
  10. Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. 
  11. Must have a valid driver’s license.
