Job Summary
The Project Engineer supports the planning, execution, and closeout of capital and operational projects by coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, and cost controls. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and engineering best practices. The Project Engineer works closely with Project Managers, Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Safety, Contractors, and Vendors to drive project success from concept through completion.
Essential Functions
Project Planning & Execution
• Support development of project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates
• Assist with preparation of AFEs, capital justifications, and budget forecasts
• Coordinate engineering deliverables, design reviews, and constructability input
• Track project milestones and support schedule recovery plans when required
Engineering & Technical Support
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical submittals
• Coordinate with engineers, consultants, and contractors to resolve technical issues
• Support management change, including scope changes and cost impacts
• Ensure designs align with site standards, safety requirements, and operational needs
Construction & Field Support
• Provide field oversight and coordination during construction activities
• Support contractor management, including scope clarification and daily coordination
• Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and site inspections
• Assist with tracking labor hours, quantities installed, and progress reporting
Cost Control & Reporting
• Track project costs, commitments, and forecasts against approved budgets
• Review invoices, progress payments, and change orders for accuracy
• Support monthly cost reporting and management updates
• Identify cost risks and support mitigation strategies
Procurement & Vendor Coordination
• Support bid packages, bid evaluations, and contractor/vendor selection
• Coordinate equipment procurement, deliveries, and expediting
• Interface with Supply Chain to ensure compliance with procurement procedures
Safety, Quality & Compliance
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure projects comply with safety standards
• Support quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes
• Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and company requirements
Project Closeout
• Support commissioning, punch lists, and turnover to Operations
• Ensure documentation, drawings, and records are complete and archived
• Participate in lessons learned and continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
1. Strong cost and budget analysis skills and to present results of analysis in a clear and understandable manner.
2. Knowledge and utilization of computers, spreadsheets, JDE, and MS Office, work processing, database, and presentation software. and have a good understanding of the process and equipment involved. Learned knowledge of procurement processes and procedures.
3. Must be self-directed, organized and innovative.
4. Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.
5. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management. Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills. Effective in positively representing RMGC in interactions with visiting VIPs, government officials and other key external stakeholders.
6. Must be able to multi-task under high-pressure situations.
7. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
8. 5 years previous experience in financial and projects program administration.
9. Working knowledge of projects KPIs and corporate requirements to effectively monitor for completion and deviations.
10. Requires valid driver’s license.
