Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Senior Trainer, the Maintenance Training Technician supports safety and maintenance training activities for the Mobile Maintenance department. This role assists with coordinating, delivering, and documenting task training, ensuring that employees receive consistent, accurate, and compliant training aligned with Kinross values, SOPs, and MSHA requirements. The incumbent works closely with maintenance leadership, maintenance technicians, and support teams to help strengthen technical capability, reinforce best practices, and promote a safe and effective maintenance culture.

 

This is an hourly role with a Monday–Thursday schedule.

Essential Functions

•    Supports the coordination and delivery of maintenance task training for new hires and existing employees, including classroom and field-based instruction.
•    Assists with maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant training records for the maintenance group, including MSHA 5000-23 forms, task training sheets, and equipment-specific documentation.
•    Helps develop, revise, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training outlines as directed by the Senior Trainer and maintenance leadership.
•    Conducts task observations to ensure employees understand and safely perform assigned maintenance tasks in accordance with SOPs, safety standards, and OEM specifications.
•    Provides support in reviewing training needs, identifying gaps, and recommending updates to programs, materials, and processes.
•    Helps with Continuous Improvement (CI) projects and actively seeks out opportunities to improve processes, standardize practices, and implement meaningful change.
•    Assists in troubleshooting and advising on adjustments needed in maintenance practices to improve safety, consistency, and productivity.
•    Participates in safety meetings, training discussions, and coordination sessions with maintenance leadership and the Health and Safety department.
•    Supports the development and upkeep of training files, charts, logs, reports, and progress tracking tools.
•    Helps prepare training-related reports and documentation, including safety records, attendance sheets, equipment task evaluations, and incident-related training documentation.
•    Receives ongoing training to stay current on maintenance methods, equipment systems, and training best practices.
•    Assists with safety inspections and helps address identified issues through training, coaching, and communication.
•    Provides general technical support and customer service related to maintenance training activities to ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and MSHA regulations.
•    Demonstrates high personal standards in safety, attendance, communication, and professionalism.
•    Works safely and without risk or harm to self or others.
•    Punctuality and regular attendance required.
•    Performs other related duties as assigned by the Senior Trainer or supervisor.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • •    High school diploma or equivalent required; ability to read and write instructions, perform basic math, and maintain accurate records.
    •    Minimum 5 years of experience in mobile equipment maintenance, mechanical repair, or a related role in mining, construction, or industrial maintenance.
    •    Strong understanding of mobile equipment maintenance practices, tasks, and safety expectations.
    •    Experience conducting or assisting with task training, mentorship, or on-the-job coaching preferred.
    •    Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with maintenance technicians, apprentices, leadership, and support departments.
    •    MSHA blue card is preferred
    •    Ability to manage time effectively, adapt to changing priorities, and support multiple training activities simultaneously.
    •    General understanding of mining operations and maintenance workflows.
    •    Basic to intermediate computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email; experience with LMS systems or JD Edwards is an asset.
    •    Strong verbal, written, analytical, and observational skills.
    •    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    •    Strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing abilities.
    •    Must meet the physical requirements outlined in the attached physical demands sheet.
    •    Valid driver’s license required.
