Job Summary

The Light Vehicle Mechanic plays a key role in keeping our fleet running safely and efficiently. This position is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing light vehicles (primarily Ford trucks), skid steers, and medium-duty trucks, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum reliability. You’ll work closely with other maintenance personnel to support mine operations and uphold Kinross’ values and The Kinross Way for Maintenance.

 

This is a full-time position working a 5/4 rotation of straight days (five days on, four days off, then four days on, five days off).

Essential Functions

•    Follow all MSHA and site safety procedures—safety is always the first priority.
•    Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues with light and medium-duty vehicles and equipment.
•    Perform timely repairs to minimize downtime and keep equipment in optimal condition.
•    Complete work orders, parts requests, and documentation accurately and on time.
•    Collaborate with other Maintenance team members to coordinate repairs and share updates on job progress.
•    Inspect, test, and maintain braking, steering, suspension, payload, compressed air, drivetrain, and engine systems.
•    Read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics.
•    Operate and maintain tools, service trucks, forklifts, and other shop equipment safely.
•    Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
•    Support the development of other team members by sharing skills and best practices.
•    Assist with other duties as needed to support the Maintenance Department and mine operations.

Qualification and Skill Requirements

•    1–4 years of experience repairing light vehicles and medium-duty equipment (Ford fleet experience preferred).
•    Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of automotive and medium-duty systems.
•    Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
•    Familiarity with CMMS systems (JDE experience a plus).
•    Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.
•    Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
•    Good communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Valid driver’s license; must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the U.S. full-time.
