Job Summary
The Mechanic is responsible for the comprehensive mechanical maintenance of haul trucks, graders/dozers, and water trucks, ensuring optimal efficiency and safety of all machinery. This role demands advanced expertise in various mechanical systems, including braking, steering, and suspension, as well as proficiency in electronic engine controls and hydraulic systems. The ability to read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics is crucial for effective troubleshooting and maintenance tasks. The Mechanic is also expected to work in various weather conditions and adhere to a rotating 5/4 schedule of days and nights.
Beyond technical skills, the Mechanic must consistently align daily functions with the Kinross Way for Maintenance and uphold Kinross’ core values, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.
Essential Functions
• Adhere to all MSHA and KGBM safety rules.
• Display proficiency in accurately diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical problems on heavy equipment, including haul trucks, graders/dozers, and water trucks.
• Conduct timely repairs to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
• Order parts accurately and complete all associated paperwork.
• Collaborate with Maintenance Personnel to repair mining equipment efficiently, minimizing machinery downtime.
• Accurately troubleshoot mechanical issues on machinery and components.
• Perform all assigned work in a safe, well-managed manner, ensuring the workspace is safe for mechanics and other employees.
• Return well-documented and accurately completed work orders promptly.
• Maintain active communication with the Maintenance Supervisor and other crews to coordinate work and provide progress updates.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety, environmental concerns, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
• Meet or exceed performance expectations set by management.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements
• 3+ years of diesel repair experience preferred..
• Diesel Technician’s Degree or relevant Certification preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and in-depth knowledge of machinery under maintenance.
• Extensive knowledge in braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, payload systems, compressed air systems, engine tune-up requirements, electronic engine controls, and drive trains including electric drive haul truck braking/dynamic systems.
• Ability to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics.
• Proficient with all tools and equipment necessary for the Maintenance department.
• Proficiency with CMMS system, JDE a plus.
• Effective problem-solving skills across various mechanical areas.
• Capable of working in a team environment with minimal supervision.
• Skilled in basic welding and cutting techniques.
• Qualified to operate various equipment, including forklifts and service trucks.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A general understanding of mining operations and a basic knowledge of milling and maintenance operations.
• Skilled with P.C., including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.
• Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills, able to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
• Ability to work independently and as part of the management team.
• Demonstrated strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills.
• Must be at least 18 years old and currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
• Requires a valid driver's license.
