Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Job Summary

Geological Technician works under the direct supervision of a Drill Services/Core Shed Supervisor who performs and monitors projects and programs dealing with drilling, sample collection, preparation, storage, and record-keeping tasks.  Assists in the planning and execution of department objectives while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Essential Functions

•    Performs and monitors drill rig sampling, sample preparation, cataloging, storage, and other special technical tasks. 
•    Coordinates complex logistical functions related to drilling, sampling, and storage tasks. 
•    Interfaces with contractors and other departments in the pursuit of project goals. 
•    Monitors, corrects errors, and improves routine procedures at all technician levels. 
•    Assists in developing and maintaining procedures and disciplines necessary to proficiently perform all tasks.
•    Oversees training in the duties of other geological technicians.
•    Directs and monitors the maintenance of sample supply stocks and equipment. 
•    Routine typing and data entry using computer software and spreadsheet programs.
•    Manage department work order and invoicing system.
•    Print and distribute required reports.
•    Maintain department specific records, logs, and files as required.
•    Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
•    Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

•    Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
•    General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of processing and maintenance operations.
•    Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
•    Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
•    Ability to work independently and as a member of the exploration team.
•    Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills.
•    Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
•    Requires valid driver’s license.
•    As a lead person, must be able to implement the directives of the Staff Geologists with a minimum of involvement from superiors. 
•    Must possess a professional attitude toward responsibilities.
•    Must be able to work with little or no supervision and work well with others.
•    At least one year of experience Geological Technician level is required.  Basic math skills are required.  
•    Must demonstrate mastery in the operation of all sampling-related equipment and duties.  
•    Must have a sound knowledge of drilling principles and techniques and proven organizational/supervisory skills. 
•    Requires valid driver’s license.
