Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base that was acquired by Kinross in January 2016. The mine is located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. The Bald Mountain Vantage Complex Project has commenced production, and the first gold bar was poured in June 2019. 

Job Description

Incumbent will work as part of the senior management team to provide environmental services for a gold mining operation in northeastern Nevada.  Under the direction of the General Manager, the incumbent will ensure that company activities are conducted in accordance with company requirements, as well as local, state and federal environmental regulations. The incumbent will be responsible for acquiring all required state and federal permits necessary to successfully operate the mine. The incumbent will conduct all activities in a safe manner while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement environmental management programs and practices to ensure that the mine site maintains regulatory compliance 
  • Coordinate and lead a multidisciplinary team on Federal/NEPA permitting actions.   
  • Develop and implement environmental business practices and policies  that align with the organization’s overall strategy.
  • Establish rapport with environmental regulators and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop a team responsible for executing the site’s environmental programs and strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others. 
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

•    A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Biological Sciences, or Mining Engineering. 
•    10 years of related work experience.
•    Experience managing senior employees.
•    Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, as they relate to mining operations preferred.
•    Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills. 
•    General understanding of mining operations
•    Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. 
•    Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
•    Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team. 
•    Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
•    Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis. 
•    Requires valid driver’s license.
