Job Summary

The Mechanic is responsible for the comprehensive mechanical maintenance of shovels and drills, ensuring optimal efficiency and safety of all machinery. This position requires advanced expertise in hydraulics and electrical systems, along with a strong mechanical aptitude. Proficiency in reading and interpreting hydraulic and electrical schematics is essential for effective troubleshooting and maintenance tasks. The Mechanic must also be capable of working in various weather conditions and adhering to a rotating 5/4 schedule of days and nights.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all MSHA and Bald Mountain safety rules.
  • Safely maintain a fleet of P&H electric shovels, Hitachi 5600 and 3600 hydraulic shovels, Atlas Copco, and Sandvik drills.
  • Perform all scheduled maintenance and promptly address and complete repairs due to unscheduled maintenance.
  • Participate positively in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Report in writing the details of work activities at the completion of every job in work orders and turnover notes.
  • Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems on heavy equipment.
  • Make timely repairs to reduce downtime and ensure job completion.
  • Order parts accurately and complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance Personnel to repair mining equipment with minimal machinery downtime.
  • Accurately troubleshoot all mechanical problems on machinery and parts to be repaired.
  • Perform all assigned work in a safe, well-managed manner, ensuring the area is safe for mechanics and other employees.
  • Return well-documented and accurately completed work orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintain active communication with the Maintenance Supervisor and other crews to coordinate work and provide updates on progress.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety, environmental, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Work without risk of harm to self and others.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
  • Help develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Preferred three (3) years of experience in a related field.
  • High level of expertise in hydraulics and electrical systems.
  • Relevant certifications or training in hydraulics or electrical systems preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comprehensive knowledge of all machinery under maintenance.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Familiarity with engine and powertrain design and function.
  • Working knowledge of all tools and equipment necessary for Maintenance department operations.
  • Effective problem-solving skills in various areas, including mechanical issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Basic welding and cutting skills.
  • Ability to operate various equipment, including forklifts and service trucks.
  • Capability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • General understanding of mining operations, with a limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
  • Proficiency with P.C. software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to maintain an inventory of personal tools required for the job.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and currently authorized to work full-time in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license required.
