Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Job Description
The Buyer is responsible for procuring materials, equipment, supplies, and services to support mine site operations, ensuring compliance with Kinross’ Supply Chain policies and procedures. This role requires a proactive approach to sourcing, contract management, and supplier engagement to meet operational needs efficiently and cost-effectively. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills while working collaboratively across departments to align purchasing activities with Kinross’ values and operational goals.
Job Responsibilities
• Build and Manage Contracts based on end-user requirements
• Expand bidders list by sourcing new suppliers, checking references, and submitting Supplier Due Diligence.
• Monitor the distribution of inquiries and bid packages to vendors. Organize bid meetings and ensure bidders receive complete specifications. Receive and evaluate sealed bids, prepare bid analysis sheets, and recommend favorable bidders
• Perform contract management and capital expenditures as directed/assigned by the Supply Chain Superintendent
• Process and monitor material costs of stock and non-stock purchase requisitions in accordance with Kinross Supply Chain Policy
• Ensure timely delivery of material requirements for Planning in line with the approved planning schedule.
• Provide necessary information to End Users to keep them informed of any critical issues within assigned commodities.
• Responsible for modifications to purchase orders due to price increases, over-shipments, expediting charges, freight, and related.
• Properly follow the procurement process utilizing Kinross’s systems and following Kinross standards
• Processing returns and credit request
• Expedite and track orders that are past due and update MRP system with current delivery dates
• Arrange transportation for orders as needed; review and/or approve freight invoices from contracted transportation company
• Review programs for overruns on time and material contracts. Resolve discrepancies involving extra charges due to changes in scope
• Rotate with other buyers on scheduled "On-Call" duty on the weekends
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
• 2-3 years contracts experience required
• 3-5 years previous purchasing and sourcing experience required
• Ability to analyze situations, make logical decisions, and choose best course of action
• Must understand and know how to operate computerized purchasing and materials management systems and standard office equipment
• Good time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize work is essential
• General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations
• Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing MS Office Suite
• Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
• Ability to work independently and also as a member of the team
• Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills
• Requires valid driver's license
• Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
