Job Description

Provides analytical and project management support for organic projects and external due diligence processes.  Creates detailed financial models for the evaluation of internal and external opportunities.  Contributes to each project by combining experience and business judgment, performing financial and other analysis, developing and delivering senior-level communications materials, and performing project management activities. 

Job Responsibilities

Assist with the management of due diligence processes in the evaluation of potential acquisition opportunities

  • Create and manage detailed financial models for the evaluation of acquisition or investment opportunities
  • Analyse and interpret technical and financial information including financial filings, technical studies and industry reports
  • Develop internal documentation and presentations including business proposals to Senior Management and the Board of Directors
  • Participate in site visits in order to assess opportunities
  • Assist with post-merger integration or continuity of study plans post-acquisition

 

Provide analytical and project management support for various internal programs and projects

  • Support Kinross and its sites and projects in making strategic decisions through analysis, business case development, modelling and impactful communication
  • With limited instruction and guidance, performs error-free and insightful analysis, financial or otherwise, that supports site, cross-site or Corporate projects
  • Apply understanding of key business drivers to build and maintain financial models.  Pressure-tests others’ models and analysis. 
  • Support the analysis and preparation of communication materials for capital requests, Strategic Business Cases, and the Strategic Business Planning process in general.

 

Other general support as required:

  • Prepare documentation for selection and management of external consultants and contractors
  • Respond to a variety of internal and / or external requests, many of which will not be standard and will require advanced problem-solving approaches
     

Education and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field related to mining, such as mining engineering or geology
  • Additional specialized education, such as CFA progression or masters level degree or equivalent would be beneficial but is not required

 

Experience

  • 2 to 7 years experience in the mining industry and/or capital markets in a mining-focused role
  • Experience working with and/or leading cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems
  • Experience with contractor management is desirable 

Skills

  • Strong technical, operational and financial analytical capabilities
  • Ability to create and modify complex discounted cash flow financial models; strong skills in Excel
  • Ability to comprehend and assess financial statements
  • Familiarity with the precious metals mining industry and capital markets
  • Strong proficiency with PowerPoint and ability to create executive/board level presentation materials
  • Highly collaborative work style in working with highly skilled corporate, regional and mine site staff (both technical and financial) using influence skills rather than formal reporting authority
  • Ability to handle significant variations in workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Conversational French, Spanish, or Portuguese is an asset, but not a requirement.
  • Ability to function within the following travel requirements: occasional travel to remote mine sites in Canada, Mauritania, Ghana, Chile, Brazil, Nevada, Washington State, Alaska and other jurisdictions as required. The expectation is that the role could require up to approximately 1 week of travel out of every 8 weeks.
