Job Description

Kinross' Operation Strategy group is looking to hire on a student for the summer of 2019 as part of our Gold Rush Internship program!

Job Responsibilities

In this role, our Gold Rush, Summer Intern: Operations Strategy – Maintenance will

  • Study internal Kinross Maintenance documentation
  • Understand and learn the basic use of JDE for the collection of relevant data
  • Review and understanding of the current model used for guiding the Repair vs Repair tool
  • Refresh/acquire and apply knowledge related to the modeling/programming of algorithms within Excel
  • Study and analyse Maintenance and Equipment performance indicators currently used by Kinross Gold Corporation
  • Study maintenance cost structures related to different fleets of Mobile Equipment and Fixed Equipment; in order to develop benchmarking studies
  • Support in the development equipment performance analysis and optimization
  • Document findings and main conclusions related to the different analysis to be performed
  • Create and present Power Point Slide deck describing the most relevant findings of the summer program

Education and Experience

• Mechanical or Industrial engineering, but candidates studying other forms of engineering or mathematics may also be considered

• Preference for candidates in their 3rd or 4th year of university, but other candidates may also be considered

Skills

• Strong analytical capabilities and experience in Excel, use and knowledge of advanced statistics and mathematic tools an asset (Maple, Matlab, Minitab, etc)

• Excellent attention to detail

• Strong communication skills, both written and oral; experience in Powerpoint an Asset

• Proven ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds

• Team player with an ability to work effectively in a team setting

• Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task

• Experience working at a mine site an asset

• Language skills in Russian, French, Arabic or Portuguese are assets, but not mandatory

• Ability and willingness to travel. The amount of travel will depend upon the projects the individual gets staffed on. Travel could be up to 30 or 40 percent of the individual’s time at certain times, typically for one or two weeks at a time.

Study internal Kinross Maintenance documentation with focus on Reliability and Predictive Maintenance

Understand and learn the basic use of JDE for the collection of relevant data

- Understand the basics of Predicitive Maintenance practices

- Support the creation of a Predicitve Maintenance Guideline

Create and present Power Point Slide deck describing the most relevant findings of the summer program

- Design and update the Configuration of the Internal Maintenance Web Page to drive exchange of experiences within the Global Maintenance Community

NOTES:

The scope of the program will be reviewed and refined on week five as per the progress achieved and specific business requirements 

- The possibility exists that the scope of the internship program varies based on operational requirements
