Temporary Geology Technician

Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. The Round Mountain Phase W Project is now in production, with first gold poured in May 2019.

Job Description

Cut and sample drill core using a table core saw, in order to expedite the sampling and results of in-pit drill programs.  Other duties in support of the drill program include, but are not limited to: retrieving core from the drill or laydown yard, keeping the core shed clean and organized, moving core boxes and arranging them to be logged by the geologists, photographing core, loading pallets and truck loads of samples to ship to offsite laboratories, other duties as needed while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Education and Experience

1.    Ability to learn to operate table saw
2.    Ability to learn drill core sampling procedures
3.    Ability to learn to operate forklift
4.    Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds
5.    Should possess very basic math skills (addition, subtraction)
6.    Must perform work in a timely and efficient manner
7.    Must have professional and responsible attitude
8.    Must be able to work with little or no supervision 
9.    Responsible to manage the RMGC Environmental Health and Safety Management system in his/her areas of responsibility.
10.    Previous experience preferred.
11.    Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills. 
12.    General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
13.    Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. 
14.    Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
15.    Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team. 
16.    Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
17.    Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis. 
18.    Requires valid driver’s license.
 

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the Chief Geologist.
