It is mined by conventional open-pit methods, with ore processed at a mill and heap leach facility. Fort Knox has one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world.

Job Description

The Senior Project Engineer (SPE) is responsible for aiding in the selection and management of Design Engineering firms and Contractors used by the Projects Department. The SPE will support the Design Engineering firms throughout the entire design, from feasibility through the final/approved design to ensure operational, applicable codes, safety, environmental, and quality requirements have been satisfied. In addition, the SPE will provide construction support as applicable for the Projects Department. The SPE is a key position to the Capital Projects Department who works closely with all FGMI organizations, including, but not limited to, Supply Chain, Operations (mine and mill), Safety, and Environmental. Also corresponds and interfaces with numerous external entities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop scope of projects with end users
  • Develop cost estimates
  • Develop schedules (Gantt charts)
  • Track costs and schedule of projects
  • Develop Engineering Firm’s scope of work for projects
  • Work closely with Contracts Administrator and Project Manager to develop RFP packages
  • Work closely with Contracts Administrator and Project Manager to select/award work to successful bidders
  • Identify operational requirements that must be accounted for in design and specifications
  • Support Design Engineering Firm in any questions they may have with process or existing conditions
  • Attend and/or participate in Engineering Design Reviews
  • Participate in Capital Projects, or as invited by other organizations, Engineered Risk Assessments (ERA)
  • Interface with Contracts Administrator and Project Manager to prepare procurement packages
  • Interface with Contracts Administrator and Project Manager to select/award procurement packages based on technical reviews
  • Daily, or as required, interface with Project Manager, or designee, to insure construction activities are completed in compliance with all technical requirements
  • Work closely with department staff to log all Capital Projects “critical” technical documents
  • Participate in the development of Capital Projects procedure development, including, but not limited to, materials receipt and transfer procedures, internal quality procedures, etc.
  • Track all submittals to ensure contractors fulfills obligation as dictated in the project specifications
  • Work with Engineering Firm to quickly respond to contractor RFIs
  • Support the overall completion of projects
  • Perform other related functions as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in similar industry
  • Degree in Engineering is preferred, but may be substituted by experience
  • Significant knowledge of construction including, mechanical (pumps and piping) and electrical

Skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Work, etc.)
  • Knowledge of AutoCad Civil 3D
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team
  • Excellent time management, communication, and technical skills are required
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets
  • Adheres to all safety and environmental considerations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
