Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross’ portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Chief Mine Surveyor, this person performs entry level engineering tasks.  Surveying experience not required, but preferred. They must learn shot layout, dig plans, flagging, and the mine coordinate system.  In addition, this person must learn the Drone, Level, Total Station, GPS, as well as other duties as assigned while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.  This position is physically demanding, and requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for design layout, shot pattern layout, ore control layout, limit checks, and progress mapping.
  • Checking and maintaining the survey equipment.
  • Keeping survey supplies stocked and ensuring adequate housekeeping of vehicles & storage areas.
  • Upload and download data collectors.
  • Utilize TSC functions – create and calibrate a new job, data transfer, key in coordinates, point measurement methods, inverse.
  • Upload data files to Jigsaw (i.e. Dispatch).
  • Maintain adequate records, both in the field and office.
  • Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.

  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.

Skill and Qualification Requirements
  • Ability to work every day in a position that is outdoors, and physically demanding.
  • Surveying experience not required, but a plus.
  • Must have good mathematical skills and a basic knowledge of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Must be capable of doing all necessary hand calculations required for all mine survey work.
  • Must have the ability to keep and maintain accurate records.
  • A computer background is helpful.
  • Artistic ability is preferred.
  • Candidate should be a self-starter, and be able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must get along well with others and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Experience with Drone, Trimble GPS, TSC Data Collectors, Trimble Total Stations, Leica Robotics and laser levels preferred.
  • Experience with Vulcan, Excel, and Trimble Business Center, and Trimble Access software is preferred.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
  • Working knowledge and skill with computer utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the Survey Team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver’s license.
