Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross’ portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.

Job Description

To coordinate activities related to a full range of engineering functions and to ensure service and / or operating standards are met (internally and / or externally).  To contribute to the design and development of processes, practices, and methodologies in engineering.  

Job Responsibilities

• Responsibilities may be focused in one of the following areas of engineering: short- and long-term mine planning, project controls, cost controls, construction, geotechnical, electrical, environmental, civil, production, exploration or continuous improvement
• Independently handles relevant technical duties, including application submittal, monitoring, and reporting
• Researches information to support decision making and improve processes, technologies or methodologies
• Contributes to the development of policies and practices
• Monitors costs related to services provided and implements approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies
• Maintains excellent rapport with external regulatory agencies to foster working relationships that minimize adversarial actions and maximizes information exchange
• Conducts regular and frequent inspections of operations / equipment / processes / procedures to ensure planned production goals can be met, and regulatory / permit compliance
• Integrates short-term plans into long-term, LOM plans
• Analyzes and interprets mine plans to ensure alignment with operational objectives
• Responds to a variety of internal and / or external requests
• Prepares communication materials, manuals and other written materials related to technical issues, programs, or systems including technical reports and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory / industry and operational requirements
• Manages outside contracts, ensuring favourable terms for both Kinross and the vendor

Education and Experience

• University degree in engineering or equivalent work experience
• Additional specialized education of up to 2 years

• 3 – 5 years of related work experience or equivalent
• Previous experience in mining industry is preferred


• Ability to use AutoCad and Microsoft Office programs
• Skilled in economic evaluation and sensitivity analysis of projects and plans, including cashflow analysis and rate of return calculations
• Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to pit design, mine planning, equipment analysis, and project management

Reporting Relationships

• Provides training and guidance to entry level professionals
• Typically reports into the Chief Engineer
