Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross’ portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.

Job Description

Coordinate activities related to a full range of engineering functions and to ensure service and / or operating standards are met (internally and / or externally). Contribute to the design and development of processes, practices, and methodologies in engineering.

Job Responsibilities

• Responsibilities may be focused in one of the following areas of engineering: short and long term mine planning, project controls, cost controls, construction, geotechnical, electrical, environmental, civil, production, exploration or continuous improvement
• Independently handles pit phase designs and short-term mine plans
• Integrates short-term plans into long-term, LOM plan to avoid bottlenecks
• Analyzes and interprets short-term mine plans to ensure alignment with operational objectives
• Prepares communication materials, manuals and other written materials related to technical issues, programs, or systems
• Produces drill pattern designs based on short-term and operational parameters
• Confirms that pit designs are properly implemented in the field
• Manages outside contracts, ensuring favourable terms for both Kinross and the vendor

Education and Experience

• University degree / diploma in engineering.

• 5-10 years experience in mine engineering required.
• Advanced experience in short range or long range planning preferred.

  • Experience in Vulcan, MineSight, or Deswik design software.
  • Minemax or MineSight Schedule Optimizer (MSSO) planning software experience a plus.
  • Experience in scheduling mine plans for mining multiple pits concurrently is a plus.
  • Advantageous to have experience in mine design for greenfield and brownfield permitting.
  • Skill set to pioneer and establish new pits
  • Cross-trained in Ore Control and/ or Mine Operations and/or Heavy Equipment Maintenance is a plus
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Software preferred.
  • Experience in pit design and optimization is desired


• Good communication skills
• Works well in a team environment; integrates into new roles efficiently
• Ability to learn additional languages as needed

Reporting Relationships

• Serves as a resource to other members of the team
• Reports into Chief Mine Engineer
