Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross’ portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Technical Services Manager, manage and direct the activities of the Geology Department to maintain an effective mine geology, hydrology, geotechnical, and development drilling programs while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Direct pre-feasibility evaluation of production opportunities.
  2. Manage geotechnical issues in the pit.
  3. Maintain an effective ore control program
  4. Supervision of the Geology staff.
  5. Manage an effective exploration program.
  6. Manage an effective hydrology program.
  7. Direct site development drilling programs, surface and underground.
  8. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  9. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  10. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  11. Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  12. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by state agency, or must be able to pass driver competency course and exam.
  13. Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  14. Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  15. Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  1. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  2. General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
  3. Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing work processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  4. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  5. Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
  6. Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills
  7. Ability to effectively present mine and exploration programs to mine management, owner companies and regulators.
  8. Ability to direct and implement quality geological processes for the continuation of mine life.
  9. Musts certify annual ore reserve calculation and be the legally responsible person.
  10. Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology
  11. 20 years mining experience.
  12. 15 years exploration experience.
  13. 10 years mine management experience.
  14. Professional registration preferred to meet requirements for the Canadian 43-101 “Qualified Person” for reserve reporting.
  15. Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.

Requires valid driver’s license
