The Tasiast mine is an open-pit operation in northwestern Mauritania located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored. The mine is proceeding with an expansion that is expected to increase production and lower operating costs. Tasiast is a cornerstone asset in Kinross’ portfolio, with a long mine life a large mineral reserve base.

 

As one of the largest private employers in Mauritania, Tasiast invests heavily in training and career development opportunities and has many important programs in place to support its host communities. For example, since 2014, Tasiast’s mobile clinic, which provides free medical support to isolated communities, has provided over 32,000 consultations.   

 

 

Purpose of Role

 

The role of the Fixed Plant Instrumentation & Control Systems Senior Supervisor - Expat exists to oversee and manage all electrical and instrumentation aspects within the Tasiast Process Plant’s area of responsibility. This includes addressing in a timely manner all electrical and instruments breakdowns, upgrades, installations and commissioning of new equipment, training of personal, liaising with external contractors/consultants and ensuring all PLC and Scada operating data is kept up to date and serviceable.


Senior Supervisor will also be a resource that the operating and maintenance teams can call on for support and advice. In addition, the Fixed Plant Instrumentation & Control Systems Senior Supervisor – Expat will be responsible to ensure the operation is always operating within compliance of all International and Mauritanian regulatory authorities.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance at your workplace.
  • Comply with all site safety and environmental policies.
  • Instrumentation and control systems for industrial processes should be designed, developed, and tested.
  • Choose and specify instrumentation parts, such as controllers, transmitters, and sensors.
  • Using CAD software, create schematics, diagrams, and layouts for control systems.
  • Using software tools like PLC programming, DCS programming, or SCADA systems, develop and put into practice control plans.
  • For planned initiatives, carry out cost-benefit evaluations and feasibility studies.
  • Ensure that projects are finished on schedule and under budget by working together with project managers, other engineers, and clients.
  • Review and approve instrumentation and control system design documents, including specifications, drawings, and calculations.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations to clients and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that instrumentation and control systems are designed and installed in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other team members.
  • Keep abreast on new developments in the field of instrumentation and control systems as well as market trends.
  • Completion of PAU’s (pre-assembled modules) electrical and instrumentation interconnections.
  • Mounting & wiring of instruments (incl. in-line instruments).
  • Calibration, care & preservation of electrical equipment and instruments.
  • Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and assist in the development of job procedures as required.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of discipline engineering experience
  • Supervision of projects on minerals processing facilities
  • Minerals processing plant commissioning.
  • Project management and coordination, planning, and management of project resources
  • Excellent knowledge base of electrical engineering technical skills and knowledge of processes.
  • History of experience with specification, startup, and troubleshooting of process control systems (DCS/PLC).

Other Qualifications and Skills

 

 

  • Ability to read blueprint drawings.
  • Understanding of other engineering disciplines and the coordination of these in the project
  • Budgeting, estimating & cost control.
  • Major capital expansion projects
  • Understanding of quality control.
  • International Driving License or ability to acquire one.
  • Experience with control system programming and software tools such as PLC programming, DCS programming, or SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations related to instrumentation and control systems, such as ISA, IEC, and NEC
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
