Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations. 

The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.

Job Description

Under the direction of a Survey Lead person or Technical Services Supervisor, the Open Pit Survey Technician shall perform open pit mine surveying tasks while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross values. 

Job Responsibilities

  1. The Open Pit Survey Technician shall perform the following essential functions:
    1. Shot pattern layouts.
    2. Ore control layouts and dig plans.
    3. Piloting a Drone (License Required).
    4. Interact with RMGC’s GPS / dispatch system at a basic level
    5. Operate conventional total stations.
    6. Use AutoCAD Civil 3D at a basic level.
    7. Drive in the pit safely in all weather conditions.
    8. Work extensively in active mine/production areas in all weather conditions.
    9. Most importantly, work safely in a mining environment and engage strongly with our safety culture.

Skills

1.    Must have the ability to keep and maintain accurate records, proficiency with computers is an asset.  
2.    Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs. over uneven ground for extended periods of time.  
3.    Must be willing to work overtime and weekends (8 and 6 schedule).
4.    Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently.
5.    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6.    Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
7.    Consistently seeking opportunities to improve processes, systems and tools.
8.    General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions.
9.    Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. 
10.    Requires valid driver’s license.
 

Reporting Relationships

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Technical Services Supervisor.
