Job Description

Under the joint direction the Finance Manager, Alaska and Director, Major Capital Projects, Kinross this position will assist in the accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting of Peak Gold Joint Venture.  This is a temporary hybrid position expected to require approximately 50% of time working in Alaska and 50% in Kinross, Toronto.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare adjustment entries to convert Peak Gold IFRS financial statements to US GAAP.
  • Prepare Peak Gold inventory valuation model.
  • Perform annual Fixed Assets count.
  • Prepare US GAAP Peak Gold JV financial statements.
  • Using advanced professional knowledge, act as an advisor to a variety of internal and / or external requests regarding cost analysis and financial statements.
  • Prepare budget variance reports and presentations for internal and external users.
  • Perform economic analysis of projects, contracts, operating activity results.
  • Assist in preparation of SBP, budgets and forecasts using RPMGlobal Xeras Enterprise.
  • Prepare cash calls and dividend distribution memorandums.
  • Support Alaska Accounting with month end close activities, audit requests, royalty and other tax calculations and reports.
  • Assist with KPI calculations and advise on actions to improve.
  • Assess existing processes, internal control structure, and financial and cost reporting formats and content and recommend improvements.
  • Draft policies and procedures as needed to ensure compliance with Corporate SOX controls and internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Support the design of record keeping/management procedures and systems to ensure all transactions and processes have an audit trail.
  • Support the development and implementation of an enhanced Contract Compliance process for Peak Gold major contracts to ensure the protection of Kinross interests and assets.
  • Assist the Alaska FP&A team in the design and alignment of the Alaska Xeras Models to actual processes and reports.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.

Education and Experience

1.    Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field. 
2.    Accounting degree preferred.
3.    Four years of experience in the offered position or a position in a related occupation.
4.    Preferred to have two years of experience in:
•    Joint Venture accounting.
•    Reconciling balance sheet accounts and bank statements by running integrity reports in Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to support key balance sheet accounts in Sales, Costs, Inventory, A/P, A/R, Bank Statement and Fixed Assets;
•    Monitoring electronic systems, including Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, backup procedures to maintain continuity of accounting operations;
•    Using Oracle JD Edwards, ReportsNow and SAP Business Planning and Consolidation to document transaction entries and prepare financial reports;
•    Participating an internal and external audits.
•    Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles, including IFRS, IAS 2 Inventories, IAS 16 Property, Plant and Equipment, IAS 17 Lease; US GAAP and JV Accounting.
•    Preparing and presenting monthly results and KPIs, budget variances, analysis and commentary on financial data based on data and information from ReportsNow, mining and processing production to create Excel dashboards and PowerPoint presentation.  Power BI experience highly preferred.
•    Performing fixed asset annual count around mining site and preparing the inventory valuation and finished goods inventories, including extracted ore in stockpiles, ore in the processing mill or heap leach, ore stored in site, ore in process, and unsold gold store, in transit or at third party refiner;
•    Assisting in the preparation of budget-forecast and strategic business plan process using RPMGlobal Xeras Enterprise.
•    Preparing JV Financial Statements.
•    Experience in converting IFRS financial statements to US GAAP compliant financial statements.

  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States when needed.

This role reports to the finance Manager, Alaska and Director, Major Captial Projects, Kinross.
